Pregnancy & Pediatric Care at Revive Chiropractic

Our team here at Revive Chiropractic is passionate about life-enhancing chiropractic care, but we believe we especially shine when it comes to caring for our pregnant mothers and children. The goals and techniques performed are similar to typical chiropractic care – we are still looking for and correcting misalignments in the spine and interference in the nervous system. However, the way these techniques are utilized differs slightly. We never cease to be amazed at the results!

Dr. Courtney has extensive post-graduate training in pediatrics and perinatal care. He is also a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

Pregnancy is one of the most precious life events for a mother. It can also be one of the most uncomfortable times as well, which is why chiropractic care is vital during pregnancy. Not only can it bring relief to a mother’s changing body, but better prepare her for a safe and healthy delivery.

The Webster Technique for Pregnant Mothers

Dr. Courtney is certified in the Webster Technique. The goal of this technique is to restore the integrity of a mother’s pelvis. Hormones released during pregnancy create ligament laxity. This is necessary to create room for the baby but can also result in bones (especially in the hips) being pulled out of their proper place. Not only can these conditions create discomfort, but may decrease the amount of room in the uterus for the baby to grow.

The goal of the Webster Technique is to relieve the stress and tension in the ligaments. Mothers feel more comfortable and the baby receives an environment where he/she can grow and thrive. Another wonderful benefit of the Webster Technique is that it allows the baby to be in an optimal position for delivery. For mothers looking to increase the likelihood of a natural birth or to avoid a C-section, we highly recommend asking Dr. Courtney more about this fantastic technique.

Is It Safe? When Should I Start?

Absolutely. You can begin to experience the benefits of this technique as early as pre-conception, or when you first find out you are with child. We believe that it is never too early to start preparing your body to handle all the changes that pregnancy brings! We also encourage continued care up to 3 months after delivery. Your body will still have hormones circulating during this time to keep the body loose and lax. Chiropractic care ensures that your body will heal properly, in all the right places.

Pediatric Care

Dr. Courtney firmly believes that all children are born to be well. We feel that chiropractic care is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Beginning care at a young age provides the best possible start for a full and flourishing life.

Babies can absorb their mother’s stress hormones in their tiny nervous systems as well as coping with challenging birth circumstances, such as forceps, vacuum extraction, and C-section. These factors can affect their ability to function and grow.

You can stop and see us on your way home from the hospital! However, we often do not see little ones until a problem arises. These problems can come in the form of feeding or latching issues, colic, digestive problems or constipation. Their little bodies can get stuck in a stress response and will not allow them to attend to the functions that will allow them to heal and grow.

Dr. Courtney provides a VERY gentle adjustment – often just using the tip of his pinkie finger. He only applies a similar amount of pressure that you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. This adjustment can go a long way in reducing pressure in the nervous system so their bodies can rest, digest, and heal.

Older Children

Chiropractic care can aid in a multitude of different issues from asthma to bed-wetting to neurodevelopmental issues such as ADD/ADHD to behavioral issues. Parents, if you feel that your child is not functioning the way they need to, we urge you to contact us immediately. The sooner the root cause of a problem is identified and corrected, the better chance your child has to develop into their best self.

We never force children to do anything they do not want to do. We will only adjust them when they are comfortable and will work within their preferences wherever possible to achieve this. We strive to create an environment where you and your child can be at ease. Do not hesitate to let us know how we can make your child’s experience with Revive Chiropractic a positive one!
